Strategic Enterprise in International Trade

Asfaltos de Arinaga offers an added value as a company active in the international trade sector: its excellent geographical location in the Canary Islands, an archipelago which, due to its location in the Atlantic Ocean and straddling the European, African and American continents, has historically been a strategic link in the maritime transport routes between these territories and even beyond.

All of this is reinforced by an ever-booming port sector, a leader in its sphere of influence not only because of where it is located but, to a large extent, as a result of its constant and tireless growth and renovation.

Factors that have consolidated and perpetuated a leading position in the world market, which is endorsed by its favourable business figures.

Figures which, in the case of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, on which the Port of Arinaga depends, once again set a new and successful record in the recently closed financial year 2024.

These celebrated results were echoed by the provincial Port Authority itself, which, in a communiqué issued at the beginning of 2025, announced that it had “broken a record” in the year in question.

When “Ports of Las Palmas broke its barrier, surpassing the entire historical series available”, according to its information, which emphasised that its infrastructures as a whole achieved this new milestone, reaching almost 32 million tonnes in total traffic.

A volume which represents an increase of 14.06% concerning the financial year 2023 in the global computation of the five ports under the jurisdiction of the Port Authority, he underlined.

He specified that, although this growth has been driven, in the first place, by the largest and most important of the five, the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas, which even recorded a higher than average growth, reaching a 15.39% increase in its total traffic, a significant improvement in the figures of the Port of Arinaga, which houses the ADA facilities, also contributed to it.

A port whose traffic volume rose by a not inconsiderable 13.48% from 2023 to 2024, according to the figures of those in charge.

Those who, through the mouth of its head, the president of the Authority, Beatriz Calzada, declared themselves “very proud” of their infrastructures and services, a product – she declared – of the public and private operators who make up the provincial “port community”, who, “day by day, with their efforts, make it possible for us to reach figures like these”, she affirmed.

In his words, he made clear the unbeatable state of health of a port sector that is a determining factor for ADA’s activity, whose location at the quayside in Arinaga is a key strategic element in its business of importing and distributing bitumen, essential for the development of road and other infrastructures, both in its main market of reference, the Canary Islands, and in its closest area of influence, the countries of Africa.
